The Scandinavian Urological Association Collaboration Group for Urothelial Cancer

Nordic Urothelial Cancer Group
The Nordic Urothelial Cancer Group is working to initiate and coordinate studies within the area of urothelial cancer in the Nordic countries. The group has a long-lasting history, as the first Nordic cystectomy trial on the effect of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy started in 1985. The first results were published in 1996, authored by former chair P.U. Malmström and other Nordic group members, showing an effect in cT3 and cT4a bladder carcinoma, with no significant effect on cT1 and cT2.

Since then, there have been several studies launched by the collaboration group, several initiated by the outgoing chairman, Jørgen Bjerregaard Jensen, who has an impressive personal academic production. At the moment, new studies are being discussed, and the first results from the ongoing Nordic cystectomy study – NorCys – are soon to be published. The group is also discussing new substudies in the era of new immunotherapies, changing the treatment first of metastatic disease, but in the future probably also the radical treatment.
